Camping It Up: Have a Holiday without Breaking the Bank this summer - Travel - Destinations

With the global economy entering into somewhat of a hiatus, the knock-on effect of this has meant that many people have had to watch their pennies that little more closely during holiday periods, and discard anything that may tempt them to spend more they can afford - such as credit cards. It's important to remember that it's still possible to have fun without spending wads of cash, as generations of people have done long before the invention of the aeroplane. True, two weeks in the Seychelles sound a lot more appealing than, say, a fortnight in Bognor Regis. A holiday, though, is what people make of it and the main point to remember is that a vacation is a period of time devoted to pleasure, rest and relaxation. Where this happens is entirely up to the individual.People have been camping for centuries, though a marked improvement in technologies and accessories has seen the overall 'sleeping under the stars' experience become a lot more pleasant. Waterproof tents, thermal sleeping bags, padded floor mats, lanterns, portable media players...all of these have helped to bridge the gap ever so slightly between plush catered accommodation and miserable, muddy fields. This does paint an overly pessimistic picture of the UK weather and the age-old hackneyed jibes about the wretched British weather may seem a little unfair when a few facts are considered. For example, the south-west of the country enjoys summer temperatures well into the twenties, with frequent heat waves hitting many parts of the UK, the record being a mammoth 38.5 degrees Celsius in Kent in 2003.By monitoring the weather forecasts it's easy to bundle a tent and some provisions into the back of the car, drive a couple of hours to the hills and experience a 'back to basics' camping experience. Check online for any of the hundreds of campsites dotted around the country that offer full shower and catering amenities. While travel insurance isn't a normal consideration when taking a holida y within the UK, it is always wise to make sure your home insurance will protect you from problems such as theft while you are away. Just because the global economy has stuttered to a standstill, it doesn't mean that people's holiday plans should grind to a halt too. A UK camping holiday is just the remedy for those seeking a break from the humdrum of working life without breaking the bank.
